Listening to others’ stories helps to build compassion and empathy so that we can gain acceptance of other cultures. This presentation will highlight the story of one man’s flight from political oppression of his homeland and the lasting impact on his family. As a child of an immigrant and a first-generation college graduate, I have navigated two diverse cultures for the past 50 years of my life. I challenged my father’s culture as well as embraced my heritage and forged a new path for myself. Come and listen to my story and gain a new perspective on cultural diversity, compassion, and acceptance.
