"As Halloween approaches, bats are common images that may evoke feelings of fear and curiosity. They aren't blind, dirty or pests. They are, however, critical to many ecosystems and the only true flying mammal. They pollinate plants, distribute seeds, can eat thousands of insects daily, and serve as prey to other animals. Their unique features continue to inspire scientific discoveries, like their membrane wings and echolocation have inspired technological advances in engineering.
